Oral, Poster contribution

Original contributions on thermal spraying and recent developments on suspensions and solutions for thermal spraying are accepted. We mainly expect contributions devoted to the analysis of spray processes, sprayed coatings characterizations (microstructural, optical, mechanical, physical, chemical…) and on recent methods such as suspension/solution spray and cold spray technologies. The papers related to post spray treatments are welcome. Environmental aspects of thermal spraying will be particularly of interest during this 8th edition.

Additionally, the contributions related to the coatings applications and their functional properties are kindly invited.

Industrial exhibitions

Thermal Spraying

(process, diagnostics…)

Materials for Spray

(powders, precursor…)

Characterization of the deposits

(mechanical tests, porosity…)

Statistics

The conference started the 6th December with the ETSA Assembly General. The same day, two public conferences were given. Prof. P. Vuoristo from University of Tampere (Finland) presented his experience with alternative coating materials in thermal spraying for sustainability and eco-efficiency. Then, Dr C. Arasa from Elsevier in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) was talking about important topics related to publishing in the field of Surface Engineering and, in particular, in the journal that she manages, namely, Surface and Coatings Technology.

The conference attracted 146 participants from 30 countries. The 12 overseas countries included Australia, Algeria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, India, Japan, Morocco, Pakistan, South Africa, and USA and the 18 European countries included Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and UK.

Two plenary lectures were given by Prof. T. Klassen from Helmut Schmidt University of Bundeswehr in Hamburg in Germany on cold spraying for additive manufacturing and repair and by Prof. Christopher Berndt from Swinburne University in Australia on challenges for thermal spray.

The 23 invited and 83 oral presentations were given in the following sessions:

  1. Spray processes – 6 sessions;
  2. Solution & Suspension spraying – 5 sessions;
  3. Cold spray – 4 sessions;
  4. Characterization of coatings – 3 sessions;
  5. Applications of coatings – 2 sessions;
  6. Modeling – 2 sessions; and,
  7. Biomaterials – 2 sessions.

The 34 posters were presented in the poster session.

All authors having presented their oral or poster contribution at 8RIPT may submit their paper to the special issue of Surface and Coatings Technology of Elsevier which will open the special slot starting on January, 1st, 2018 and the guest editors will be Prof. L. Lusvarghi and both co-chairmen of the meeting.
