Jacques Fontanille is awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Lima.

This award represents the equivalent of the honorary degree, the highest degree of the university, conferred in an honorary capacity to foreign VIPs for outstanding service on behalf of Science, Literature and the Arts, to the country or the university which awards the title.

Jacques Fontanille is a global reference point in semiotics. He founded the [Centre for Semiotic Research] of the University of Limoges (Centre de Recherches Sémiotiques) CERES, which is the largest European centre for semiotics. He has collaborated with the University of Lima for 15 years.
