A new Director for the LABEX ∑-LIM

Frédéric Dumas-Bouchiat has just been appointed Director of the Laboratory of Excellence ∑-LIM supported by the University of Limoges and has taken up his new post on 1 January 2023. He succeeds Thierry Chartier, CNRS Research Director for the IRCER Institute.
After a career as a Research and Development Engineer at ST-Microelectronics in Tours and then as a Lecturer at the University of Grenoble Alpes and at the Néel Institute in Grenoble, Frédéric Dumas-Bouchiat joined the University of Limoges in 2012. Currently Professor in the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Limoges and at the IRCER Institute, he works on the development of plasma processes for the synthesis of layered materials, on the realisation of these materials correlated to the understanding of the properties of micro/nanostructured matter and on the design of innovative micro-devices integrating these specific materials. As a specialist in thin film materials, laser ablation deposition and nanotechnologies related to information and communication, its research concerns range from the most fundamental research to its applications, particularly technological.
The LABEX ∑-LIM carries many projects at the interface of the two founding laboratories, IRCER and XLIM, and is due to continue until December 2024. While ensuring the continuity of the excellence projects undertaken, the major challenge over the next two years is to build, with the help of a dedicated committee, large-scale investment projects allowing the resources necessary for the scientific influence of the University of Limoges and its associated laboratories.
