Workshop Cordées de la recherche – Conference Paul Leplay

On March 27 and 28 at CALM (Campus la Borie, Limoges) the “Cordées de la Recherche” (Research climbing rope) workshops will take place. The opportunity for our M1 students to present their scientific work in poster form.

The two days will be punctuated by conferences.

For this 2025 edition, discover each week the portraits of the speakers who will be present.

The portrait of the week is Mr. Paul LEPLAY:

« Thermomechanics and ceramics : Research & Development for industrial applications »

Abstract :

The thermomechanics of ceramic materials is a historical discipline but more than ever at the heart of environmental issues to increase the efficiency and lifetime of many industrial applications. Thus, it is necessary to always better control the characterization of different mechanical properties of ceramics such as creep, cracking, thermal shock, etc. to guarantee the durability of such complex materials. Several examples of applications and innovative approaches will be detailed to illustrate the importance of research for the industry.

Biography:

After a doctorate in mechanics of materials at INSA Lyon, Paul Leplayjoined the Saint-Gobain group and its research and developmentcenter based in Cavaillon (84) about fifteen years ago. Between digitalsimulations, digital image analysis and physical measurements, hiswork focuses on the thermomechanics of materials, in particular thoseof technical and refractory ceramics for the many industrialapplications in which the Saint-Gobain group is present. Today also(co)-director of joint laboratories between Saint-Gobain and thevarious CNRS in Lyon, Nancy and Orléans, he positions himself at theinterface between the industrial and academic worlds.
