Research Interest

Dr. Sylvain Vedraine's research focuses on two major axes, Plasmonics and Printed Electronics, with a strong application bias toward optoelectronic devices, particularly organic and perovskite solar cells. He also develloped solutions applied to biosensors and healthcare

1. Plasmonics and Advanced Transparent Electrodes

Illustration of plasmonic nanostructures and electrodes

This research aims to create next-generation transparent electrodes and leverage the plasmonic effect to optimize the efficiency of photovoltaic devices. Dr. Vedraine has developed and modeled multilayer structures based on non-conventional and ITO-free (Indium Tin Oxide) materials, such as silver nanowires.

2. Printed Electronics and Organic/Perovskite Solar Cells

Illustration of inkjet printing of solar cells

This theme focuses on utilizing Inkjet Printing for the manufacturing of perovskite and organic solar cells. This method enables low-cost, large-area, and flexible substrate fabrication, with precise control over material deposition. Long-term objectives include device miniaturization, integration of semi-transparency and coloration for architectural applications, and the development of dissipative models to optimize the design of complex modules.

3. Plasmonics Applied to Biosensors and Healthcare

Illustration of a biosensor in an optical fiber

Dr. Vedraine has also applied plasmonics to the healthcare sector, notably by developing SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) platforms on flat substrate or integrated into silica optical fibers (collaboration with Dr. Georges Humbert) or polymer optical fibers (collaboration with Dr. Jean-Louis Auguste)
