Context/objectives

Our activity is focused on the synthesis and the study of the properties of lead-free functional materials (dielectrics, ferroelectrics, piezoelectric…) based upon the perovskite structure, of general formula ABO3. Our work is mainly devoted to the study of the relationships between the structure and the electrical properties, together with the modifications induced by chemical substitutions. The studied compounds are mainly (i) titanates (A,Bi)TiO3, including bismuth in the A-site of the perovskite lattice and (ii) alkaline-niobates with complex perovskite structure (Li,Na,K)(Nb,Ta,Sb)O3.

AFM/PFM study of a NBT thin film


Activities

  • Study of solid-solutions based upon sodium-bismuth and potassium-bismuth titanates Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) and K0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (KBT).
  • Search for new compounds with complex perovskite structure (A, Bi) (B, B’) O3 and study of their electrical properties.
  • Correlations between the structure and the dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties and the associated phase-transitions.
  • Elaboration of thin films (chemical deposition by sol-gel route) and study of their specific properties.
