Scientific activity

Ressources

  • Staff

Three engineers manage the different microscopes and the running of the center. They organise and provide the in-service training of the different users.

  • Equipement

The center has a wide range of SEMs and TEMs (3 SEM and 3 TEM).

    • PHILIPS XL30 :It is a tungsten filament equipped SEM with an Oxford Instrument Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS).
    • JEOL 7400F : It is a Cold Field Emission Gun (FEG) microscope with a PGT Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). This high resolution microscope is equipped with a high pressure freezing system which enables to vitrify samples in the field of materials or life sciences.
    • CAMBRIDGE Stereoscan 260 : It is a tungsten filament equipped SEM with a special PGT Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). A Germanium crystal equips the analytic system and allows high spectral resolution.
    • JEOL 100CX2 : Transmission Electron Microscope operating at 100kV.used for basic observations, low magnification imagery and diffraction.
    • JEOL 2010 : Transmission Electron Microscope operating at 200k with a point to point resolution at 0.23nm. This instrument is equipped with PGT Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and a Gatan multiscan camera.
    • JEOL 2100F : This instrument is an advanced ultra high resolution field emission gun electron microscopy with an accelerating voltage of 200kV. The point to point resolution is 0.19. This microscope is equipped with a bright and a dark field STEM, a Gatan Orius 1000 camera, a Gatan Orius 200D camera and a Jeol EDS.
  • Sample preparation equipment :

The center has a wide range of sample preparation equipment : Gatan Ionic beam thinning (PIPS), Gatan coating (PECS) for example. A specific knowledge on sample thinning preparation for TEM has been developed by the SPCTS.


Users

  • Laboratory

Although characterizations by electron microscopy is mainly used by SPCTS and GEMH searchers, concerning the characterisation of materials, the microscopy center also provides the training of the ENSCI and master students and finally the center works with other laboratories of Limoges such as :

    • XLIM
    • Laboratory of Chemistry of Natural Substances (LCSN),
    • Research Group on Water, Soil and the Environment (GRESE),
    • Laboratory of Control of the B cell immune response and lymphoproliferations,
    • As well as Limousin companies which need characterisation resources.
